World of International Freight Forwarding.

If you are in this section to find the explanation to our Shipping Icon.

If you are new to International shipping we hope that the following sections will answer most of your questions. It is not as daunting as it may first seem.

We are able to ship goods to you using the following methods :
1. Air Freight
2. LCL (Less than Full Container load)
3. FCL (Full Container load)
4. International Courier (UPS, Fed Ex etc)

1. Air freight

This is the quickest method of shipping.

The cost of air freight is calculated on the total actual weight ( US$ / kg) or the total dimensional weight of all packages in the shipment (US$ / kg) whichever is greater.
These $ / kg rates are set by the International airlines and vary like air tickets, so we do our best to shop around for the best rates for you.

Allow up to seven working days to take delivery of your order, from the time it leaves our warehouse until it clears customs at the destination.

The minimum quantity acceptable by the airlines for air freight is 45 kg. The more you ship, the cheaper the rate gets.
The rates / weight brackets are as follows :
45kg +, 100kg +, 250 kg+, 500 kg+, 1000kg+.
Usually the rate will be about US$0.05 to US$0.10 cheaper per kg, per weight bracket, for most International destinations.

Examples of our Prepaid air freight rates** 100 kg +, air freight only (from Jogja city).
Los Angleles: US$3.80/kg
New York: US$4.10/kg
Miami: US$4.25/kg
Vancouver: US$3.80/kg
London: US$3.80/kg
Frankfurt US$3.80/kg
Sydney: US$2.10/kg
Tokyo: US$3.10 /kg

** All above rates subject to change without notice

Sometimes you will see on our shipping estimate that we anticipate you paying for more kg than the estimated weight of the goods. This is because shipping charges are based on the dimensional weight of the shipment, when the dimensional weight exceeds the actual weight. Please e-mail us if you need more information.

In our experience most customers receiving mixed orders of handicrafts by air freight will end up paying some volumetric charges, but these charges are usually not too excessive. At the time of sending out the pro-forma invoice, we will advise you to ship by LCL if it looks as if you are going to end up paying a lot due to volume.

We can also offer Collect rates negotiated in Indonesia should you wish to pay for the freight when the shipment arrives at destination. The cost is usually about US$0.20 to US$0.25 / kg more than for Prepaid shipments, depending on the destination.
If you already have a local shipping / customs agent, we advise checking Collect rates they may be able to offer you, as occassionally you can receive good quotes at destination.
Please advise us should you decide to ship Collect after receiving the initial pro-forma invoice.

We are unable to offer Collect shipments to all destinations due to airline restrictions.

If you are new to importing we reccommend you contact a customs or cargo broker / agent. You can find them listed in your local telephone book, and are sure to be of help. As well as clearing your order through customs and dealing with the red tape involved in importing goods from abroad, they can also offer services such as trucking to your shop or warehouse and freight quotations.
It is an additional expense, a lot of first time importers are reluctant to take on, but unless you live next door to an International airport, they may save you a lot of time, money and headaches.

Sea Freight

[Shipping recommended by sea freight]
If you are planning on making an order to be shipped by airfreight, avoid products marked with this icon!

The costs of shipping our heavy, large products by International airfreight are totally un-economical.

For example, you may want to order a 24" giant chess (32 pieces) from us with a cost price of FOB US$1200.
It has a weight of 125 kg. Shipped to Los Angeles by airfreight from Jogja (US$3.80 / kg), the cost landed for the candleholder would be approximately $475 .

If however the same Giant Chess were sent by LCL the landed cost would be cheaper after packing in wooden shipping crates.

Other items we have marked with this icon are fragile. These products are also are better off being shipped by LCL or FCL.
We have very experienced packing staff, but even they cannot prevent over zealous port and cargo workers from breaking items such as large mirrors, as freight is taken on and off planes and trucks.

Of couse if you really want these goods to be shipped by airfreight you are quite welcome to do so.
Sometimes though, it makes a lot more sense to wait an additional 4 or 6 weeks for your order, and save 50% - 400% of the landed cost of the product.

2. Less Than Container Load (LCL)

Although not as quick as Airfreight, for a large majority of our Giant Chess orders, this is by far the best shipping choice. It is very cost effective.

Shipping time is usually around 4 to 6 weeks from Jogja/Semarang to most destinations worldwide.

The cost of freight is calculated from a US$ rate per m3 (cubic metre), these rates supplied to us by our cargo agent at the port of departure, in Semarang, Indonesia.
We can offer you some of the best rates around!

Examples of our Prepaid LCL rates** (Ocean freight only. Subject to change without notice)

New York :US$100.00/m3
San Francisco :US$75.00/m3
Orlando :US$120.00/m3
Vancouver :US$90.00/m3
Montreal :US$140.00/m3
Hamburg :US$100.00/m3
Tokyo :US$55.00/m3
Sydney :US$60.00/m3

** All above rates subject to change without notice.

The minimum quantity to be shipped by LCL is usually 1 m3. If your order is less than this amount you still have to pay the shipping line for shipping 1 m3.

Unfortunately we cannot be 100% sure of the volume or weight at the time of sending you the proforma invoice. Please find more details in the airfreight section.
The volume quoted in our shipping estimate usually has a margin of error of about +/- 15%. This figure should be used only as an indication of what you can expect to pay for freight upon shipping.

Collect rates negotiated in Indonesia are usually about US$10.00 to US$20.00 / m3 more than for Prepaid shipments, depending on the destination.

If you are new to importing we recommend you contact a customs or cargo broker / agent. For further details on customs brokers please scroll up for more explanation in the airfreight section.

For customers in the US there is usually a shipping line fee called DDC. (Destination Delivery Charge). This is the cost of shipping the freight overland from the port to the final destination. (Los Angeles to Denver for example). This cost is payable in US$ / m3. All LCL shipping estimates to the U.S. will include DDC charges.

3. Full container load (FCL)

The price per m3 is about 40% cheaper than LCL shipments, and you avoid having to pay for all of the wooden shipping boxes.

There are basically three types of container available:
40 ' container (+/- 60 m3 depending on commodity)
40' High Cube (+/- 70m3 depending on the commodity)
High Cubes cannot be shipped to all International destinations.
20 ' container (+/- 30 m3 depending on commodity)

Examples of our Prepaid 20' Container rates (Ocean Freight Only. Subject to change without notice)

New York :U.S.$2,650.00
Los Angeles :U.S.$1,950.00
Miami :U.S.$3100.00
Southampton :U.S.$1,550.00
Le Havre :U.S.$1,450.00
Hamburg :U.S.$1,450.00
Tokyo :U.S.$650.00
Sydney :U.S.$1000.00

The shipping time is 4 to 6 weeks from Semarang, Indonesia to most International ports.

4. International Courier
The following companies have offices in Jogja city:
UPS
Fed Ex
DHL
TNT
All of the above 3 to 5 days to most international destinations
Door to door.

Unfortunately all of the International Courier companies have extremely expensive rates within Indonesia compared to elsewhere in SE Asia. We recommend asking your local courier office for an explanation. Hopefully with enough complaints the Indonesian offices will discontinue this practice, enabling you to ship using their services more cost effectively.

We recommend only using courier services for samples only.
